The Operation Crossing of the Strait (OPE) 2025 concludes today with historic figures in passenger and vehicle transit volume. Since the device was activated on June 15, more than three million travelers have passed through the nine Spanish ports involved in the operation's coordination, and more than 700,000 cars have been boarded. This represents the largest planned movement of people in Europe, organized every summer to ensure smooth travel between the European continent and North Africa.
The provisional balance confirms an increase of around 4% in the flow of travelers compared to the 2024 fiscal year, while vehicle traffic records an upward variation of 3.56%. These percentages consolidate the trend of moderate growth observed in recent years, with special prominence of the docks in the Strait of Gibraltar.
The ports of Algeciras and Tarifa, the main maritime connection nodes with Morocco, have once again concentrated most of the operation. In the case of Algeciras, with connections to Ceuta and Tangier Med, the departure and return of more than two million passengers and over half a million vehicles has been recorded. Tarifa, which connects with Tangier City, has likewise registered a notable volume of transit, reinforcing its role in the overall OPE scheme.
The operation, which takes place in coordination between Spanish and Moroccan authorities, has proceeded this summer normally and without significant incidents.
