The Gibraltar Tourist Office (Gibraltar Tourist Board, GTB) was present last week at Seatrade Europe 2025, the leading international event in the cruise industry held in Hamburg. The event brought together shipping companies, ports, destinations, suppliers, and industry professionals with the aim of analyzing the evolution of cruise tourism and future challenges.
The Gibraltar delegation was composed of Adriana López and Gabriella García Sheriff, marketing managers of the GTB. Both participated in various round tables that discussed strategic issues such as destination marketing, sustainability in operations, and improving passenger experience. These sessions served to share knowledge and trends that currently shape the sector's agenda and condition its medium-term projection.
In addition to the educational aspect, the presence in Hamburg offered the GTB the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings with representatives of shipping companies, itinerary planners, and other agents linked to the cruise tourism value chain. In this context, the delegation presented the services and infrastructure of the port of Gibraltar, as well as the cultural and tourist attractions available to visitors during stops.
The Minister of Tourism of Gibraltar, Christian Santos, valued participation in this type of international forum as a tool to consolidate the visibility of the destination in the Mediterranean cruise circuit. He explained that these initiatives allow for direct contact with the main players in the industry and present the local tourism offer to a highly specialized audience.
Seatrade Europe, held biennially, is one of the reference meetings for the sector, combining exhibition area and a conference program where the most relevant issues for shipping companies, port authorities, and destinations are addressed. Among the topics discussed in this edition were energy transition in cruises, new technologies applied to port management, and ways to enhance the passenger experience during their stops.
The Gibraltar Tourist Office maintains a strategy of ongoing presence in international tourism and maritime transport forums to strengthen its positioning as a stopover within the cruise routes that cross the Strait and connect the Atlantic with the Mediterranean. According to sector sources, direct contact with shipping companies and operators is a key avenue to attract additional stops and diversify the offer of tourism services linked to this traffic.
