Fred. Olsen Express and Baleària will reinforce the maritime connection between Huelva and the Canary Islands with the incorporation of the ship Buenavista Express, which will take over the ferry Sicilia starting from January 24, 2026. From that date, the route will be operated by the ships Marie Curie and Buenavista Express, ensuring a reliable, efficient service fully adapted for both passenger transport and rolling cargo.
The first trip of the Buenavista Express is scheduled for January 24, departing from the port of Huelva and destined for Santa Cruz de Tenerife, thus marking its operational incorporation into one of the leading maritime routes between the Peninsula and the Canary archipelago.
After more than seven years of joint service, this connection has consolidated as one of the main maritime routes between the Canary Islands and the Peninsula, playing a key role in both passenger mobility and rolling cargo transport.
Characteristics of the Buenavista ExpressThe Buenavista Express is a ROPAX type ship with the capacity to transport up to 1,850 linear meters of cargo. It has a length of 172 meters and can reach a maximum speed of 21.5 knots. It has capacity for 1,250 passengers and 390 vehicles, as well as more than 200 double and quadruple cabins with space for 750 passengers.
In addition, the ship offers about 550 seats in different types of armchairs, cafeterias, catering services, and terraces, as well as special amenities for pets and cabins adapted for passengers with reduced mobility, maintaining the services and standards characteristic of this consolidated maritime route.
