The Junta and Moeve sign an alliance to promote applied quantum computing in the Andalusian industry

The counselor for Industry, Energy and Mines and president of theDigital Agency of Andalusia (ADA),Jorge Paradela, and the executive vice president of Technology, Projects and Services ofMoeve, José Manuel Martínez, have signed a memorandum of understanding in Seville to accelerate the adoption of quantum technologies integrated with artificial intelligence and transfer them to industrial use cases with real impact in Andalusia.

The agreement articulates a flexible public-private collaboration through which the energy company integrates into the ecosystem being developed around theArtificial Intelligence Center of Andalusia (ANIA). The goal is to promote digital innovation, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence to reinforce regional competitiveness, sustainability, and the energy transition.

Paradela emphasized that the memorandum "represents a common will to combine capacities, share knowledge, and explore new opportunities that contribute to improving the competitiveness of the Andalusian industry." He also highlighted that digital transformation requires the involvement of administrations, companies, SMEs, startups, clusters, and the academic field, and pointed out that Andalusia is advancing above the European average in 5G connectivity, business digitization, and digital public services.

The alliance is part of the Quantum Project that the ADA develops alongsideIBMandAyesa, aiming to provide Andalusian researchers and companies access to advanced computing infrastructures. In this context, the agency has integrated into the internationalIBM Quantum Network, which provides specialized training, technical mentoring, and support for the development of pilot projects and proof of concept.

José Manuel Martínez has emphasized that public-private collaboration is key to economic development through digital innovation, highlighting Moeve's strategic commitment to Andalusia and the cooperation with IBM as an international benchmark in the technological field.

Industrial impact use cases

The memorandum includes the identification of opportunities, the piloting of initiatives, and the development of concrete applications with real impact. Among the priority axes is the drive for quantum and hybrid computing applied to complex calculations and its integration with artificial intelligence, also promoting the training of highly specialized talent in quantum computing, advanced mathematics, and data science.

One of the use cases focuses on applying Quantum Machine Learning to improve anomaly detection in Moeve's Energy Parks in Palos de la Frontera (Huelva) and Algeciras (Cádiz), critical infrastructures for energy production. The objective is to anticipate operational failures, optimize predictive maintenance, and strengthen cybersecurity through advanced processing of large volumes of data.

The second case addresses the optimization of the life cycle of industrial catalysts through advanced mechanistic models, combining quantum and high-performance computing to improve energy efficiency and sustainability in processes.

The agreement will also facilitate access to advanced quantum and high-performance computing infrastructures for Andalusian companies and researchers, enabling validation and scaling of solutions in real environments.

These initiatives will be structured around the new ecosystem of exponential technologies promoted by the ADA in Granada alongside IBM and Ayesa, conceived as the epicenter of the Andalusian quantum system and a platform to reinforce Andalusia's positioning as a reference territory in advanced technologies.
