SASEMAR and WISTA Spain sign an agreement to promote equality

The Maritime Rescue and Safety Society (SASEMAR) and WISTA Spain have signed a General Collaboration Protocol with the aim of strengthening the role of women in the maritime field and promoting joint initiatives for dissemination, support, and awareness-raising on the issue of equality.

The agreement was signed by the director of Maritime Rescue, José Luis García Lena, and the president of WISTA Spain, Rosana Velasco Maso, who highlighted the shared commitment of both entities to strengthen female participation in a strategic sector such as maritime. García Lena emphasized that collaboration among institutions is key to accelerating the necessary changes and advancing towards real integration of women in the sector. For her part, Velasco stated that the agreement represents a milestone for the organization and reflects a firm commitment to inclusion and diversity, values she considered fundamental for the future of the maritime industry, without losing sight of the challenges that still persist.

The protocol establishes the organization of joint dissemination and awareness activities, the exchange of information and experiences to enhance the visibility and participation of women in the maritime sector, as well as the preparation of annual work plans with the planned actions for each year. Additionally, the creation of a monitoring committee made up of representatives from both entities is contemplated to ensure the proper execution of the agreement. The document does not imply any economic cost for either party and will have an initial validity of 24 months, extendable up to a maximum of four years.
