The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), through the company Contratas Terrestres y Marítimas, has refloated the yacht Mr M, which had been sunk in the Port of Tarifa since last September.

The vessel was towed to the Tarifa fishing dock and has finally been brought ashore, thus completing a complex operation carried out by the port authority.

Mr M sank in the Sacred Heart Dock after encountering forced arrival due to the problems it presented when sailing from the Costa del Sol to Morocco. The APBA has carried out the operation in a subsidiary manner and through emergency processing, given that the presence of the wreck posed a risk to the passenger ferry service between Tarifa and Tangier.

The budget allocated for the operation has amounted to 239,000 euros. The work has included the extraction of fuel and oil from the ship's tanks, reinforcement of moorings, installation of signage in the water sheet, placement of absorbent barriers, and collection of waste and possible spills, among other preventive actions.

To carry out the refloating, it has been necessary to move to Tarifa on two occasions two heavy cranes, each weighing 200 tons, as well as lifting balloons, suction pumps, and a team of specialized divers.

Once beached, the APBA is now finalizing the final destination of the vessel outside the port area.
