The logistics companyMaerskhas announced the temporary suspension of the acceptance of maritime cargo bookings in several Middle Eastern countries due to the deterioration of the situation in the region. The measure takes immediate effect for shipments originating from, destined to, or transiting through the United Arab Emirates, Oman (except the port of Salalah), Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and certain areas of Saudi Arabia, specifically the ports of Dammam and Jubail.
The decision responds to a risk assessment and the need to protect its staff, ensure the integrity of the goods, and maintain the stability of its logistics network. However, exceptions are contemplated for essential products such as critical food, medicines, and other indispensable goods.
At the same time, Maersk confirmed that some strategic ports remain operational, includingJeddahandKing Abdullahin Saudi Arabia, as well asSalalah, in Oman. Regarding Israel, the company has suspended the acceptance of hazardous goods, although it continues to transport other types of cargo. Shipments to and from Jordan and Lebanon also remain operational.
Ground operations —including road transport, rail, and storage services— continue to function in the area. However, the company warns of possible border congestion, customs delays, and changes in routes due to stricter security measures.
For loads already booked but not yet prepared for shipment, Maersk advises customers to contact their local representatives to explore alternative routes or changes in destination ports. In the case of goods that are already in transit, the company has begun redirecting some shipments for temporary storage at nearby ports in order to avoid congestion at key logistics centers.
The company emphasized that it will continue to assess the evolution of the situation and will adjust its operations as necessary, keeping customers informed of any changes that may affect their shipments.
