The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) has joined this Friday in the celebration of International Women's Day, which is commemorated next Sunday, March 8, with a series of events and activities aimed at highlighting the role of women in port organization. The day has served as a framework to showcase the advances made in equality within the institution, which has increased the number of female workers in its workforce by 40% between 2022 and 2025, rising from 87 to 122 professionals.

Alongside this data, the APBA has highlighted the growth registered in the group of non-convention staff, where the number of female workers has tripled in the same period. This group now represents 10% of the institution's executive board, a percentage that evidences the progressive incorporation of women into higher responsibility positions within the organizational structure of the Algeciras port authority.

The evolution of these figures responds to the implementation of the Equality Plan of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras, approved in 2022, which establishes a set of measures aimed at ensuring a balanced representation of men and women in all functional areas and hierarchical levels of the organization. This plan includes actions in the areas of personnel selection, internal promotion, continuous training, work-life balance, and harassment prevention, among other areas of action.

The implementation of these measures has favored the incorporation of female talent in profiles and departments that traditionally had a lower presence of women. Particularly, the technical and operational areas of the port have experienced a gradual increase in female participation, a process that the APBA considers key to achieving a workforce composition more representative of society. Also, the departments linked to environmental management, strategic planning, and technological innovation have seen significant additions of female professionals in recent years.
