APM Terminals Algecirashas conducted a Kaikaku Kaizen during week 12, an intensive continuous improvement activity based on Lean methodologies, aimed at optimizing processes and providing more predictable and reliable services to its customers. The event brought together a multidisciplinary team, includingKeith Svendsen, CEO of APM Terminals, and allowed for reviewing procedures and testing practical measures that are already generating improvements in operational flow both on the ship and on land.
"When the system improves, productivity increases and the turnaround time of ships in port is reduced, which decreases costs and emissions. Through Kaizen, we improve flows, guided by safety, quality, delivery, and cost, in that order," Svendsen noted.
For his part,José Miguel Carreñohighlighted that the initiative demonstrates the potential of the teams and opens new opportunities to improve the flow in the yard and the overall customer experience at the terminal.
APM Terminals Algeciras, the largest container terminal in Spain and one of the main ones in Europe, plays a strategic role in global trade due to its location in the Strait of Gibraltar, a natural transshipment hub connecting routes between Asia, Europe, West Africa, and South America.
