SDG 13 Climate Action will focus on the eleventh edition of the Sustainable Development Meeting in Algeciras

Experts and researchers will meet on June 4 at the R&D+i Building of the Technological Campus of Algeciras to address the Sustainable Development Goal number 13, dedicated to Climate Action, within the framework of the eleventh edition of the Sustainable Development Meeting. The event is organized by the Foundation Technological Campus of Algeciras (FCTA) and the University of Cádiz, through the Vice-Rectorate of the Bahía de Algeciras Campus, with funding from the Department of University, Research and Innovation of the Government of Andalusia.

The meeting, open to the general public at no cost, aims to create a space for reflection on the current status of the SDGs set by the United Nations in the 2030 Agenda, with the objective of raising awareness of ongoing projects and actions aligned with those commitments and promoting sustainable development both locally and globally.

The program, which will take place throughout the morning, will include an inaugural lecture, a session of communications and projects linked to SDG 13, and a round table with experts and entities. Participatory debates between speakers and attendees will complete the day, aimed at generating new proposals or actions for the future.

The inaugural lecture will be given by Mercedes Martín, a meteorologist and oceanographer specializing in climate change, urban sustainability, and scientific communication, and presenter of Antena 3 Noticias Atresmedia since 2015. Martín holds a degree in Marine Sciences and Environmental Sciences from the University of Cádiz and combines her television work with the scientific direction of cultural projects that aim to bridge the gap between science, the humanities, and public institutions. "My work lies at the intersection of scientific communication, female leadership, and territorial transformation, with the aim of bringing climate knowledge to society and influencing decision-making," the speaker has stated.

During the meeting, the Award for Best Oral Communication will be granted, endowed with 500 euros. As a novelty of this edition, the FCTA has organized the MIRA SOSTENIBLE photography contest #fotografiandODS13, with two different modalities that will also have prizes. The competition rules will be published soon.
