The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras has awarded Compañía General de Construcción Abaldo S.A. the works corresponding to Phase 3 of the Maritime Lake project in Llano Amarillo, for an amount of 1.73 million euros and a execution period of 10 months. This new action will be developed in the section between the area already executed by the Algeciras City Council in 2024 and the area known as Oasis, covering an area of over 10,000 square meters that includes both port and municipal lands. The project includes the urbanization of a pedestrian boulevard next to a perimeter bike lane of 440 meters long, thus completing the cycling ring that surrounds Llano Amarillo. In addition, 94 parking spaces will be enabled on the east side of Avenida Virgen del Carmen.
The intervention will incorporate two alignments of trees to generate shaded areas, as well as low shrubs with high CO₂ absorption capacity to delimit the bike lane. The space will be completed with urban furniture such as pergolas and benches, configuring an environment oriented towards leisure and sustainable mobility. In parallel, the Port Authority continues to advance in Phase 2 of the project, whose works are executed by SATO. This phase affects the northern front of Llano Amarillo and the corridor between the UCA SEA building and the area of the children's park of the flamingos and the outdoor auditorium, which has required activating temporary pedestrian detours to ensure the continuity of the work. The president of the Port Authority, Gerardo Landaluce, has highlighted that these actions "will mark a before and after in the port-city integration," while calling for understanding from users of the Ribera Maritime Promenade for the temporary inconveniences arising from the works. In total, the APBA allocates nearly 8 million euros to the different phases of the Maritime Lake, a project that encompasses more than 26,000 square meters and consolidates as a new meeting, leisure, sports, and knowledge space for residents and visitors of Algeciras.
