The works on the South Access to the Port of Algeciras continue to generate significant mobility problems, affecting both residents and business owners and workers, who are concerned about how the works are accumulating delays and will negatively impact the summer season.
One of the most affected groups is the transporters, who have expressed their indignation at the new traffic restrictions. Since last Tuesday, trucks can only access the port through the North access, following the closure of the N-350 road, a measure that will be in effect, at least, until June 30th.
This situation is causing a noticeable increase in operating costs, due to higher fuel consumption, as well as an increase in driving times, which directly impacts the control of tachographs and route planning.
The president of the Container Transporters Association of the Bay of Algeciras (ATCBA), Diego Piñel, has expressed the sector's discomfort and has called for more agility from the administration to execute the works. He also reminded that the deadlines for the reopening of the well-known Los Yankis road have not been met. Piñel has described the situation as a true daily odyssey for drivers, who must face longer and more complicated routes to access the port, in a context that further exacerbates the pressure on one of the main logistics nodes in southern Europe.
Meanwhile, uncertainty continues, and the transport sector fears that traffic problems will persist in the coming months if measures are not adopted to alleviate the situation.
