The company AGSA-Partida has officially adhered to the Green Strategy of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), joining the group of companies in the Algeciras port community that have taken on sustainability commitments aligned with the environmental roadmap of the Port of Algeciras. The APBA has welcomed the company, stating that its incorporation contributes to the progress towards "a port model more respectful of our environment, innovative and efficient."
Adhering implies for AGSA-Partida the integration of more demanding environmental criteria in its operations, a commitment to greater transparency and responsibility in sustainability matters, active participation in port initiatives aimed at environmental improvement, and collaboration with other companies in the port community to move towards a more sustainable common management model. From its incorporation, the company will be able to use the official seal of "Company Adhered to the Green Strategy of the APBA," the use of which is regulated by rules established by the Port Authority to ensure its correct, consistent, and responsible use in the communication channels of the adhered companies.
AGSA-Partida has framed its decision in its commitment to continuous improvement within the Algeciras port ecosystem. The company has stated that "sustainability is not a destination, but a path we walk with commitment, rigor, and vision for the future," and has expressed its willingness to continue working to add value and contribute to a more modern, efficient, and sustainable port.
The Green Strategy of the APBA is an initiative that started in 2009 with the approval of the first environmental policy of the Port of Algeciras and has been consolidated over the years with the obtaining of certifications such as ISO 14001, the PERS of EcoPorts, and the EMAS registration. In 2021, these efforts were articulated in the Green Strategy 2021-2026, which was recognized by AENOR as the first port strategy of the state system aligned with and certified against the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.
The strategy is structured around 12 sustainability commitments covering areas such as governance, port-city integration, energy transition, biodiversity, innovation, circular economy, health, training, and reduction of inequalities, with measurable goals set for 2026 and 2030. The global goal aims to reduce CO₂ emissions by 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels and achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
The adherence of AGSA-Partida expands the number of companies in the port ecosystem committed to the objectives of the Green Strategy, which already has more than 40 adhered companies. This model of shared commitment between the Port Authority and the business fabric of the port constitutes one of the distinctive elements of the Algeciras strategy, which seeks to make sustainability a responsibility assumed by all actors operating in the port area and not just by the institution that manages it.
Among the projects developed under the Green Strategy are the electrification of the docks through OPS systems, with an investment of 92 million euros; the installation of biomimetic reefs in the Llano Amarillo, which have increased biological wealth by 81% in less than a year; the program "Guardians of the Sea" for the protection of cetaceans in the Strait of Gibraltar; and the Green Energy Hub, aimed at promoting transition fuels and synthetic fuels in the Bay of Algeciras. Coordination of all these initiatives is channeled through the Green Office (OSIEV), created by the APBA in 2023 as a space for dialogue with companies and the port community.
