The counselors of the Ceuta Government, Nicola Cecchi, responsible for Commerce, Tourism, Employment, and Sports, and Rafael Martínez Peñalver, in charge of Urban Planning and Transport, held a working meeting with representatives of the Government Delegation, the Ceuta Port Authority, and the shipping companies operating in the maritime line of the Strait. The main objective of the meeting was to improve coordination among the various parties involved and ensure the continuity of the service under the best possible conditions for users.
During the meeting, the shipping companies reiterated their willingness to actively collaborate with the Administrations, emphasizing their commitment to the safety and comfort of passengers. In this regard, the need for operational protocols to address potential eventualities that could disrupt the usual operations was discussed, along with mechanisms for immediate response and agile communication among all the involved parties.
From the Administrations, both the City Government and the Government Delegation and the Ceuta Port Authority reaffirmed their commitment to the citizens and highlighted the importance of maintaining a maritime transport system that operates regularly, especially during times of high demand or adverse weather conditions.
The meeting also served to analyze recent experiences in managing maritime traffic between Ceuta and Algeciras, as well as to study possible adjustments in planning that would allow for anticipating incidents and minimizing their impact on the service. The parties agreed that the periodic holding of such meetings allows for identifying areas for improvement and strengthening institutional and business cooperation.
One of the points discussed was the impact that the quality of the maritime service has on key sectors for Ceuta, such as tourism, commerce, and employment. In this regard, it was noted that the proper functioning of maritime connections not only guarantees the mobility of residents but also directly influences the economic development of the city.
The shipping companies reiterated that their goal is to maintain a stable operation adapted to the needs of users, placing special emphasis on punctuality and the comfort of services. For their part, local and port authorities highlighted that institutional coordination is essential to maintain the trust of the citizens in this transport system.
The meeting concluded with the agreement to maintain an open and ongoing line of communication among the parties, in order to facilitate the resolution of any incidents and adapt operations to any circumstances that may arise. Additionally, a commitment was established to continue holding periodic follow-up meetings, in which the state of the service will be reviewed and new improvement measures will be proposed.
