The CMA CGM Group, Marlink and Eutelsat have announced a strategic alliance to deploy OneWeb connectivity in low Earth orbit (LEO) in CMA CGM's global maritime fleet, reinforcing digitalization and resilience of onboard communications.
The solution integrates the services Eutelsat OneWeb LEO, based in Europe, with existing LEO and GEO satellite networks, within an advanced hybrid network architecture enabled by the edge platform XChange NextGen, specifically developed by Marlink.
Under this multi-year agreement, OneWeb LEO services will be installed on more than 300 CMA CGM vessels in the next nine months. The solution, delivered and integrated by Marlink, combines multi-orbit satellite networks, incorporating multiple layers of resilience and advanced capabilities that strengthen the group's global connectivity services. This deployment entails the implementation of a high-availability architecture at an unprecedented scale in the maritime sector.
Thanks to this infrastructure, CMA CGM will have a high-capacity and low-latency connectivity environment, key to accelerating the digital transformation of its fleet. Continuous and robust connectivity at sea will improve operational efficiency, facilitate real-time data exchange, and offer advanced services to crews, bringing the digital performance of vessels closer to the standards of terrestrial environments.
Moreover, the solution will contribute to the group's decarbonization objectives by enabling real-time optimization of routes, speeds, and fuel consumption, helping to reduce emissions and improve operational efficiency. Based on the edge cloud platform XChange NextGen, Marlink provides CMA CGM with its Possibility Platform, which integrates capabilities for cybersecurity, IIoT data collection, cloud enabling, and centralized fleet-wide network orchestration, ensuring predictable performance and service continuity regardless of navigation routes.
