The Association of the Port Community of the Bay of Algeciras (COMPORT) will receive recognition from the City Council of Algeciras on the occasion of the Day of Andalusia 2026, which is celebrated on the upcoming 28th of February. The distinction, approved by the municipal plenary at the proposal of the mayor José Ignacio Landaluce, rewards the work done by this entity over more than a quarter of a century in service to the port ecosystem of Algeciras and its area of influence.
COMPORT was founded in December 1999 by about 60 members, including El Estrecho Digital, and currently has a membership that exceeds 160 companies linked to the maritime-port activity of the Bay of Algeciras. Since then, the association has acted as a link between the private operators of the port and public administrations, promoting collaboration between the companies in the port environment and serving as a platform for the commercial promotion of the Port Bay of Algeciras in international markets.
The City Council of Algeciras considers that COMPORT is an essential benchmark in the projection and cohesion of the city's port ecosystem, having developed a sustained effort to defend, promote, and enhance the port as an economic, social, and strategic engine of the territory. The municipal proposal emphasizes that the entity has been able to adapt effectively to the profound transformations that the maritime-port activity has undergone in recent decades, betting on continuous improvement, innovation, human resources training, and the modernization of technical means, always with the aim of adding value to the port and the services that integrate it.
Throughout its trajectory, COMPORT has consistently worked on promoting the Port Bay of Algeciras in environments where it can generate greater opportunities, without losing sight of its main vocation: to offer efficient logistical solutions, respond to customer needs, and consolidate stable and lasting trust relationships, which has provided it with a deep knowledge of the sector.
Through numerous annual commercial actions, joint missions, and participation in international forums, the association has projected a cohesive, solid, and professional image of the port, contributing to attracting activity and investment and to the strategic positioning of Algeciras in the logistics and maritime field.
The Algeciras City Council also recognizes the working model that has characterized the association, based on cooperation and professionalism, fostering collaboration among the companies in the port environment and coordination with public institutions, which has become a hallmark of the Port Community of the Bay of Algeciras. A model in which cooperation prevails over competition and in which individual achievements are understood as part of a shared collective success for the entire city and Andalusia.
The City Council of Algeciras estimates that COMPORT has sufficient merits in defending the values that characterize both Algeciras and Andalusia, and publicly acknowledges the effort, involvement, and commitment of the association and all the people and entities that make it up with the economic, social, and institutional development of the city.
