The Executive Committee of FETEIA-OLTRA held a meeting with the participation of the Freight Forwarders Associations (ATEIA) from different regions of Spain to analyze the evolution of international trade and the operational difficulties currently affecting supply chains. During the meeting, the effects that international tensions are having on the functioning of global logistical chains were addressed, especially regarding the increase in operational uncertainty and rising transportation costs.
In a context marked by the war in the Middle East, where oil infrastructure and energy routes have become military targets, uncertainty about transportation costs and fuel availability has intensified. This situation forces constant recalculation of routes, prices, and transit times in international trade.
To address this scenario, FETEIA-OLTRA has established a specific working group focused on the ongoing monitoring of the international situation and on the exchange of information with authorities, sector organizations, and correspondents in third countries. The objective is to provide companies with updated information that allows them to make operational decisions in an especially volatile environment.
In this context, freight forwarders are playing a key role in helping companies adapt their logistical chains, evaluate alternative routes, and adjust the planning of operations in order to ensure the continuity of foreign trade.
The sector also warns that the problems do not affect a single link in the logistical chain. Operational difficulties are being felt in various areas of international transportation, which requires addressing challenges in a coordinated manner.
Maritime transport
In the maritime field, the Executive Committee approved FETEIA-OLTRA's adherence to theManifesto for Efficient, Sustainable, and Competitive Maritime Transport, promoted by the Spanish Shippers’ Council (SSC) and the Association of Cargo Owners of Spain (ACE). This initiative aims to promote a more efficient and competitive maritime transport model, capable of responding to the current challenges of international trade and strengthening the competitiveness of the business fabric.
Regarding customs issues, during the meeting it was also reported on the recent meeting held with the director of the Department of Customs and Special Taxes and the deputy director of Customs Management.
In that meeting, among other issues, the situation of the different Border Control Posts (PCF) and the operational difficulties that continue to affect certain customs procedures were analyzed.
FETEIA-OLTRA insisted on the need to improve communication and coordination between the Administration and customs representatives, an aspect that the sector considers essential to ensure the smooth flow of foreign trade. The federation will continue to work with the authorities to advance solutions that improve the functioning of procedures and reduce incidents affecting import and export operations.
