The Grimaldi Group has presented the main lines of its global growth strategy at FITUR 2026, based on a strong financial position, systematic reinvestment of profits, and a strong commitment to technological innovation. In this context, the Italian holding company, a world leader in roll-on/roll-off maritime transport, has announced an investment of over 1.3 billion euros for the construction of nine state-of-the-art ro-pax ships.
The new units, which will join the fleet between 2027 and 2030, will be equipped with dual fuel propulsion with methanol, low-friction silicone coatings on the hull, and shore power connection systems (OPS). According to the group, these technologies will allow for a reduction of more than 50% in CO₂ emissions per transported unit, aligning the fleet with the most stringent climate goals of the European Union.
Trasmed consolidates its recovery
Within this strategy, Trasmed, the Spanish shipping line of the Grimaldi Group, has confirmed its consolidation after significantly improving its results in 2025. The company, based in Valencia and operating ships under the Spanish flag, has increased its revenue by nearly 10% in passengers and 14% in cargo, while EBITDA and net profit have improved by around 90%.
The reduction of indebtedness has been another milestone of the year, with debt limited to 26.5 million euros at the end of 2025. Additionally, Trasmed has positioned itself as the market leader in passenger transport between Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca and between Valencia and Palma. Management expects 2026 to be the first year with net profits since the acquisition of Trasmediterránea's assets in the Balearics.
During 2025, Grimaldi continued to renew its fleet with the addition of 'Ammonia Ready' PCTC ships for vehicle transport, prepared for future conversion to ammonia use, as well as new multipurpose and hybrid units operated by Finnlines in northern Europe. In total, the group expects the delivery of 14 additional PCTCs between 2025 and 2027.
Spain consolidates as a strategic hub for this expansion. In Barcelona, Grimaldi has unified its ferry terminals, built a new vehicle silo with an integrated photovoltaic plant, and advanced in the electrification of docks, allowing ships to turn off engines in port. In Valencia, the management of Trasmed's infrastructure strengthens a key logistics hub in the Mediterranean.
