A.P. Moller-Maersk has received the 'Tangier Maersk', the first of a new series of six medium-sized vessels with a capacity of 9,000 TEUs. The delivery took place at the Yangzijiang Shipbuilding group’s shipyard in Jingjiang (China), where the vessel was named. The shipbuilder completed the contract three months ahead of the originally scheduled timeline.
The six vessels that make up this series are equipped with dual-fuel engines capable of operating with methanol, a technology that allows for reduced carbon emissions in maritime navigation. Maersk will receive four additional units throughout this year, while the final delivery is scheduled for early 2027.

Together with the remaining units, it will contribute to the continuous renewal of our fleet and to our long-term competitiveness,' said Anda Cristescu, Director of Chartering and New Constructions at Maersk.
On its maiden voyage, the 'Tangier Maersk' will stop in Shanghai before joining Danish shipping line's TP15 service. This route connects East Asia with the US Gulf Coast via the Panama Canal, one of the highest-volume trade corridors in transpacific traffic.
The incorporation of these six vessels is part of the fleet renewal process that Maersk has been developing in recent years, with special attention to the adoption of alternative fuels. Methanol has become one of the company's preferred options for the energy transition of its maritime operations.
