Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has incorporated the port of Málaga into the stops of its NWC UK Greece & Türkiye service starting this February. The route operates weekly and connects Northern European ports — the United Kingdom and Belgium — with Greece and Turkey, with several intermediate stops along the Atlantic and Italian coasts.
The service rotation begins and ends in Liverpool, from where the ships sail to London Gateway and Antwerp before heading to the Mediterranean. The stop in Málaga occurs on the outbound trip to the Eastern Mediterranean, where the service touches Piraeus and Thessaloniki in Greece, and Izmir, Tekirdag, and Gebze in Turkey. The return journey to Northern Europe does not include a stop in Málaga, but does include stops in Gioia Tauro in Italy and Sines in Portugal.
According to the shipping company itself, the incorporation of Málaga into this service "reinforces MSC's commitment to the Spanish market and significantly expands the options available for importers and exporters in the region." The direct connection with the markets of Greece and Turkey, as well as with the United Kingdom and Belgium, opens up new logistical possibilities for companies in southern Spain for both export and import operations.
This new stop adds to a process of increasing MSC's presence at the port of Málaga, which the shipping company has been incorporating into several of its routes over the past year, with a direct effect on the growth of container traffic in the Andalusian facility. The company, considered the largest container shipping line in the world by capacity, has also recently added several ports on the northern Spanish coast to services with the American continent.
