The SEA-EU Alliance has participated as a collaborating organization at MARLOG 15, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the port ecosystems of the Mediterranean and transforming the maritime-port sector towards a more sustainable and innovative model.
The alliance was represented by its general director, Fernando Pérez, who advocated for the need for ports to evolve from mere actors in the logistics system to strategic partners capable of co-creating training programs tailored to the real needs of the sector. In this context, SEA-EU emphasized the importance of developing official micro-credentials at the European level that allow for the updating of competencies and provide agile responses to the new challenges of the maritime industry.
Collaboration with the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) continues to be consolidated as an example of cooperation between university and port. This synergy facilitates the generation of innovation networks, promotes specialized training, and contributes to the advancement of a more resilient blue economy aligned with the objectives of energy transition.
During the meeting, Luis Núñez, Head of Strategy & European Affairs of the APBA, focused his intervention on Green Corridors and international maritime cooperation, highlighting the essential role of ports in the energy transition, in the development of intelligent logistics corridors, and in improving the efficiency and sustainability of maritime transport.
Likewise, Fernando Peña, general coordinator of SEA-EU, presented the action map that the alliance promotes from Cádiz together with its coordination team. Comprising nine coastal universities from different European countries, SEA-EU reinforces its positioning as a strategic bridge between the academic field and the port sector.
The joint participation in MARLOG 15 highlights the relevance of the Strait of Gibraltar as a key location for international maritime trade and consolidates its port community as a reference in the global logistics field.
In the framework of the congress, the upcoming MEDPORTS TRAINING SEA-EU 2026 was also presented, promoted by MEDPORTS, which will be dedicated to green corridors and clean energies. The program has recently been incorporated into the academic offerings of the University of Cádiz, granting an official European degree in a strategic area for the future of maritime sustainability.
