The set of ports of general interest of the State recorded a ro-ro traffic of 11,149,937 tons during the first two months of 2026, representing a decrease of 5.31% compared to the same period of the previous year, when 11,774,890 tons were reached. Only in February, the volume moved was 5,911,253 tons compared to 6,021,687 of the same month in 2025, according to data published by Ports of the State dated March 23, 2026.
The Port of Algeciras maintains its undisputed leadership position in ro-ro traffic at the national level. The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) managed 2,140,384 tons in the cumulative January-February, a figure representing a decrease of 5.06% compared to the 2,254,474 tons of the previous year. In February, the Algeciras facility moved 1,143,158 tons, slightly above the 1,139,936 of the same month in 2025.
The Port of Valencia ranks as the third Spanish enclave in this segment, with 2,013,161 tons accumulated and a negative variation of 7.03%. For its part, Barcelona recorded 1,672,559 tons up to February, representing a decline of 3.73%. The Balearic Islands, with their various port facilities, totaled 2,078,487 tons and a drop of 6.09%, while the Canary archipelago contributed significant figures: Las Palmas reached 963,167 tons with an increase of 4.64%, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife recorded 736,051 tons, 8.64% less.
In the northern peninsula, the Port of Santander accumulated 293,191 tons with a decrease of 7.42%, while Bilbao experienced the largest contraction among the major ro-ro ports, with 141,371 tons and a negative variation of 27.45%. Vigo, a reference of the northwest, added 195,554 tons, 1.40% less.
The analysis of the behavior of Andalusian ports reveals a heterogeneous situation. In addition to the aforementioned leadership of Algeciras, the Port of Almería emerges as the main positive exception of the Andalusian port system, with a growth of 19.45% and a total of 197,467 tons in the first two months of the year. This increase positions the Almería facility as the second Andalusian port by ro-ro volume and one of the few at the national level that record significant increases.
The Port of the Bay of Cádiz recorded 159,178 tons up to February, 3.65% less than in the same period of the previous year. The Port of Huelva, for its part, moved 97,894 tons with a slight advance of 2.83%, while the Port of Málaga reached 74,573 tons and a growth of 8.08%.
The autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, connected by ro-ro services with the Peninsula, recorded 88,881 and 71,364 tons respectively. Ceuta experienced a drop of 8.19%, while Melilla declined 7.90% compared to the same period in 2025.
Among the Andalusian ports with the least ro-ro activity, Seville accumulated 20,869 tons with a significant decrease of 28.33%, while Motril barely reached 7,419 tons, representing a collapse of 93.49% due to the interruption of the regular services operating from the Granada port.
At the national level, the only ports that recorded notable growth were Almería, Las Palmas, Málaga, Huelva, and Ferrol-San Cibrao. The latter increased from 3,743 to 4,056 tons, with a growth of 8.36%. Vilagarcía burst into the ro-ro statistics with 58,393 tons, when the previous year it recorded no activity in this segment.
