The Port of Ceuta welcomed this Monday the first stop of the Azamara Journey, a ship from the Azamara Club Cruises line that docked during the early hours at the Spain Dock. The assistance operation was carried out by Amarres S.L., a company responsible for mooring services at the port facilities.
The Azamara Journey belongs to the R class and has a gross tonnage of 30,277. It has capacity for 694 passengers in double occupancy, while its crew consists of 390 members. The dimensions of the ship reach 180 meters in length and 25 meters in beam, distributed over 11 decks that house the different areas of the cruise.
The vessel was built in the year 2000 for Renaissance Cruises, a company that initially named it R Six. The ship's trajectory has been subject to various operator changes since its launch. After the bankruptcy of Renaissance Cruises, the ship passed into the hands of Pullmantur Cruises in 2003, at which point it received the name Blue Star.
Two years later, in 2005, the Spanish company decided to rename the vessel Blue Dream, a designation it retained until joining the Azamara fleet. The current operator acquired the ship and renamed it Azamara Journey, integrating it into its line of cruises aimed at the premium segment of the market.
Azamara Club Cruises operates in the luxury maritime tourism sector, with a proposal focused on exclusive experiences and extended stops at selected destinations. The shipping company operates a reduced fleet that allows for a personalized service on board, with a high crew-to-passenger ratio.
The ship has facilities designed to meet the expectations of a demanding public. Among its services are specialized restaurants, entertainment spaces, wellness areas, and outdoor zones set up for observation and leisure during voyages.
The arrival of the Azamara Journey in Ceuta represents the incorporation of the city into the routes of a shipping company specialized in high-level tourism. This type of stop helps to diversify the profile of visitors that the port receives and expands the maritime connections of the city with different Mediterranean destinations and other regions.
The Port of Ceuta has maintained a constant activity in the cruise segment in recent years, recording stops from different shipping companies that include the city in their Mediterranean itineraries. The port facilities have infrastructures adapted to accommodate this type of vessels, with equipped docks and operational services that facilitate the mooring and unmooring maneuvers.
The assistance provided by Amarres S.L. is part of the set of port services required for each cruise stop. This local company is responsible for mooring and unmooring operations, as well as other tasks related to the stay of ships in port. Coordination between different port agents is necessary to ensure the proper development of these operations.
