The TTI Algeciras terminal has received the strategic visit from HMM's CEO, Won Hyok Choi, who was accompanied by Senior Executive Vice President Jung Yub Lee and the regional director for Europe, Seung Hwan Seo. The delegation, composed of three senior representatives from the shipping company, developed an agenda focused on firsthand understanding the evolution and projects of the Bay of Algeciras Port.
The visit marks a milestone as it involves the highest global representative of the company and the first of this level since CMA Terminals entered the shareholding of the terminal. This move reinforces TTI Algeciras's strategic positioning within the group's global network and highlights its partners' commitment to long-term development. During the day, the delegation participated in an institutional meeting at the Process Coordination Center alongside officials from the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras, headed by its president Gerardo Landaluce and its general director José Luis Hormaechea. Also present were the president of the State Ports, Gustavo Santana, and the Secretary General of Transport from the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Benito Núñez.
Subsequently, HMM representatives visited the TTI Algeciras facilities, where they analyzed operational and technological advancements, as well as the evolution of traffic and the connectivity of the enclave within the main international maritime routes. One of the central points was the review of HMM's strategic investment, which holds the majority shareholding with 50% plus one share, as well as the future growth plans, among which stands out the terminal expansion project. This visit comes after the recent approval of the concession extension by the Port Authority, which includes the incorporation of 15.9 additional hectares in Isla Verde Exterior and the extension of the concession period until 2066.
The associated investment, amounting to 150 million euros, will increase capacity by 500,000 TEUs, reaching 2.1 million by 2028. Since its launch in 2010, TTI Algeciras has surpassed 18 million TEUs handled, consolidating itself as a key infrastructure in international transshipment and reinforcing the role of the Bay of Algeciras Port as one of the main logistics hubs in the Mediterranean and a strategic node in global maritime routes.
