The European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) has congratulated the Port of Dover for obtaining recertification under the EcoPorts PERS environmental standard (Port Environmental Review System), a recognition that the British port receives for the fourth time.
The Port of Dover, a member of the EcoPorts network since 2003, thus revalidates its commitment to sustainability and the transition towards net zero emissions, in a context where it manages approximately one third of trade between the United Kingdom and the European Union.
ESPO's Secretary General, Isabelle Ryckbost, has highlighted the port's trajectory within the network, emphasizing the importance of its involvement in ambitious environmental goals. Similarly, Tim Verhoeven, policy advisor and coordinator of EcoPorts, has valued the port's commitments, especially its goal of achieving zero emissions by 2030, labeling it as an inspiring example for other European ports.
The Port Environmental Review System is the only specific environmental standard for ports and has seen remarkable growth in recent years. Currently, 87 ports from 25 countries are part of the EcoPorts network, of which 28 have PERS certification.
Compliance with this standard is independently assessed by the entity LRQA Nederland B.V., and the certificate is valid for two years, after which it must be renewed to ensure continuous compliance with environmental requirements.
