The Port of Gothenburg has announced the acquisition of a large area located in the outer zones of the port facility, in a strategic operation aimed at securing its future growth. The agreement, signed with the real estate company Platzer, includes both the purchase of land and properties as well as the sale of a logistical asset, with a total net cost of 684 million Swedish crowns. The operation includes land, office buildings, and water areas, which opens the door to the development of up to 210,000 additional square meters of terminal space. This expansion will allow the port to continue consolidating its position as one of the main logistics hubs in northern Europe.
The port's CEO, Göran Eriksson, emphasized that the acquisition responds to the need to ensure long-term development: sustained volume growth requires increasing capacity to maintain the global competitiveness of the Swedish industry. The operation is part of a progressive expansion strategy towards the west that began in the 1970s, with milestones such as the construction of the Älvsborg RoRo terminal and the subsequent development of the Arendal 2 project, which added 144,000 square meters of operational surface. Furthermore, the newly acquired area is located next to the future Stena Line ferry terminal, currently under construction, which is expected to be completed by 2031, reinforcing the strategic appeal of the area. The revenues generated by the office buildings included in the operation will contribute to financing the future development of the area.
Both the purchase and sale of the assets are subject to the approval of the municipal council, and it is expected that the property transfer will be completed no earlier than the fourth quarter of 2026. With this operation, the Port of Gothenburg strengthens its capacity to attract new industrial investments and consolidate its position as one of the most competitive logistics hubs in the Nordic region.
