The shipping company Maersk, one of the main operators active in the port, confirmed that all of its crew are safe and accounted for, and that none of its vessels or cargo have been affected by the incident. The Danish company estimated that operations will remain suspended for approximately 48 hours and committed to informing its clients should any changes occur within this timeframe as soon as it has new information.
The Government of Oman firmly condemned the attack, calling it a flagrant act of aggression. Authorities in the Sultanate reaffirmed their commitment to adopting all necessary measures to safeguard national security and ensure the protection of residents and workers throughout the country.
The incident is framed within the context of the military conflict that broke out on February 28, when the United States and Israel carried out large-scale airstrikes against vital facilities, military sites, and command centers in Tehran and other Iranian cities. The bombings resulted in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, on the first day of the conflict, along with several high-ranking officials and commanders, including Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and prominent leaders of the Revolutionary Guard.
In response, Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones against Israel and other countries in the region while proceeding to close the Strait of Hormuz, which has caused a sharp increase in energy prices globally.
The Port of Salalah is one of the main port infrastructures in southern Arabia and operates as an important logistics center on trade routes between Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
