The truck traffic crossing the Strait of Gibraltar from the port of Algeciras reached 51,542 units during April 2026, which represents an increase of 11.01% compared to the same month of the previous year, when 46,429 units were recorded. The monthly data confirms a recovery of activity on the main maritime routes connecting the south of the Peninsula with north Africa, especially on the route between Algeciras and Tangier Med.
The Algeciras-Tangier Med connection concentrated the majority of the rolled goods traffic, with 48,785 trucks transported during the fourth month of the year. This figure represents an increase of 10.91% compared to the 43,985 units recorded in April 2025. This line thus maintains its position as the main ro-ro corridor of the Strait and as a strategic link for trade flows between Europe and Morocco.
The Algeciras-Ceuta route also recorded positive behavior in April, with 2,737 trucks, compared to the 2,430 counted in the same month of 2025. The growth was 12.63%, in traffic of lower volume than that of Tangier Med, but relevant for the supply and logistical activity of the autonomous city.
In the connections with other ports, the movement increased from 14 to 20 units, which represents an increase of 42.86%. Although these are small figures compared to the main routes of the Strait, this data adds to the general growth recorded during April in truck traffic.
In the cumulative from January to April, the total truck traffic on the lines of the Strait was at 191,386 units, barely 0.37% less than the 192,104 counted in the same period of 2025. This evolution reflects a practical stability across the first quarter, despite the growth recorded during April.
The connection between Algeciras and Tangier Med moved 180,870 trucks in the first four months of the year, which represents a decrease of 0.48% compared to the previous year. On the route with Ceuta, 10,394 units were counted, with an increase of 0.83%. Meanwhile, traffic with other ports reached 122 units, 114.04% more than in the same period of 2025.
In terms of vehicles loaded as passengers, April closed with 85,034 units. This figure represents a decrease of 11.74% compared to the 96,345 recorded in the fourth month of 2025. The monthly evolution has been uneven among the different lines, with declines in Algeciras-Tangier Med and Algeciras-Ceuta, against the increase recorded between Tarifa and Tangier.
On the Algeciras-Tangier Med connection, 34,671 vehicles in passenger service were moved in April, 13.74% less than the 40,194 from the same month of the previous year. On the Algeciras-Ceuta line, traffic was 35,286 units, which represents a decrease of 21.98% compared to the 45,227 recorded in April 2025.
The Tarifa-Tangier route has shown a different evolution, with 15,077 vehicles loaded in April. This volume represents a growth of 38.02% compared to the 10,924 units from the same month of the previous year, consolidating the role of this connection in passenger traffic with vehicles between both shores.
Between January and April, the accumulated traffic of vehicles in passenger service reached 303,173 units, 5.55% less than the 321,002 recorded in the same period of 2025. By lines, Algeciras-Tangier Med accounted for 142,106 units, with an increase of 1.67%, while Algeciras-Ceuta totaled 120,781 vehicles, 18.03% less. On the Tarifa-Tangier connection, the accumulated traffic reached 40,286 units, with an increase of 18.86%.
